New Twitter Accounts Hint At Atlas Reactor Comeback

Is Atlas Reactor making a comeback? The free-to-play turn-based multiplayer game from Trion Worlds stumbled out of the gate and was shut down shortly after the gamigo takeover of Trion. Given its reception and and minimal player base, you would have been excused if you thought it would never see the light of day again.

That might not be the case, however. A number of Twitter accounts have popped up, all bearing the name of an Atlas Reactor character and speaking cryptically in character. There’s one for rocket-obsessed Zuki, boy genius Helio, the “One Man Army” Garrison, gunslinger Lockwood, and Helio’s AI EMET. The accounts follow each other and are interacting with each other (as well as getting retweeted by the main account), and a gamigo developer has confirmed that they are “not some sort of October Fool’s Day post.” If that’s not a prelude to a reboot, then I’m not sure what else it could be.

Despite its flaws, Atlas Reactor got solid reviews, so a revival of the game isn’t the craziest idea. While you can point to Trion’s flip-flopping on the payment model as being a reason for its lackluster performance, I think the game’s general style of play, and its difference from traditional PvP games, is also a hurdle that will need to be overcome. It is what it is, and you can’t change it completely, but finding some way to make it appeal to a wider range of players will be key to its successful rebooting.
